johnny awesome

via vanityfair

- vanity fair writer Douglas Brinkley visits Mr. Depp at his Bahamian getaway. seriously jealous.

"I’m enjoying an alfresco dinner of oysters and mango shrimp, sitting beachside with my host and three new friends. There is a tangle of tropical jungle behind us. And we’re watching the sun sink over the horizon as prisms dance across the seascape.

I am, as it happens, a guest on the private island of Johnny Depp..."

CK very nice

via iainclaridge

Calvin Klein catalogue designed by William Hall to promote the new flagship store in Avenue Montaigne, Paris. Love it.

“Since the catalogue was not intended to be sold, it was possible to eschew the traditional assumption that a cover should define or be indicative of its content. Instead there was an opportunity to create an enigmatic and alluring object, the abstract qualities of which demand attention in their own right.”

The right client mindset certainly reaps awesome rewards.

RCA genius

via iconeye

- "Choi's plug is just 10mm wide when it is folded. To unfold it, the two live pins swivel 90 degrees, and the plastic surround folds back around the pins so the face of the plug looks the same as a standard UK plug. The idea produced a spin off, too. Choi created a multi-plug adaptor, a compact standard plug sized unit with space for three folded plugs to slot in, as well as one that charges USB devices." via iconeye

this needs to cause a revolution. RCA graduate Min-Kyu Choi has cleverly redesigned an outdated, clumsy solution to a simple problem. quite incroyable that it hasn't been thought of before, but then again, that's product design.

unbelievable micro sculpture

out of stock

- genuinely thoughtful design from out of stock. from the top:

" Story is a bird-cage inspired chair made of steel wires, which lets us store our precious belongings inside through an opening at the back. // Eraser brings back memories of playing with the little piece of rubber back in elementary school. Displaying irony between form and function, the USB stick stores data in the familiar shape of the classic ink eraser. Available in 1GB or 2GB // Winter Arrives is a series of stools with generous cushions and contrasting slim legs that remind us of this phenomenon nature creates. " via

lyrical

- "This complex ad follows the lyrics of a Beatles song viewable from the window of a moving Chicago metro train. The song, originally the closing track from Yellow Submarine, is performed here by The Hours, and was recorded in a hotel room using such handy objects as a fire extinguisher and a metal heater. Hours singer Antony Genn has been described as a “former heroin addict, streaker, and flatmate of Robbie Williams”. The track was specially recorded for the ad, which means – sorry guys – it is not currently commercially available." via tvadmusic

mdma

"The unnamed distributor, quoted in Bruce Eisner's Ecstasy:The MDMA Story (1989), apparently chose the name "Ecstasy" because "it would sell better than calling it 'Empathy'. 'Empathy' would be more appropriate, but how many people know what it means?""
